Who is Jeff Hancock?

Married to:
Heather and parents to our Isabella and Elisha
Place of Birth:
Rock Hill, SC, USA
Where I have been and what I have done:
I grew up in the Southern United States as the youngest of 5 kids. As I grew up I developed a passion for
history and a hunger to find and experience the great truths of life and God. In high school I had a personal
encounter with God that led me to begin to pursue some form of ministry as my life work. Heather and I
attended seminary in the Boston, Massachusetts area and I have been in pastoral ministry for the 11 years
since then. We have been at Crossroads since August of 2010 and have been overwhelmed by the amazing
privilege of being in this community.
My role in Crossroads:
I think one of my primary roles at Crossroads is provoke us to keep asking the right questions. To keep
wrestling with the implications of the fact that we are unalterably loved by a Holy, living, passionate,
and merciful God. To seek together to not only deeply enjoy the love of God but also how to live that
out together.
My passion in life:
To seize the day, to suck the marrow out of life. To embrace the freedom, life, and love of God and enjoy
it passionately with my wife and little ones. And to become a vessel through which that same freedom and
love flow out to others.
My favorite food:
Anything Indian, Italian, Mexican, Middle Eastern... and a nice juicy steak!
My favorite movie:
Too hard to name one, but here are a few: The Matrix, The Gladiator, Love Actually, Lars and the Real Girl,
Slumdog Millionaire, It’s a Funny Story Actually, A Beautiful Mind, Dirty Pretty Things, The Royal
Tennenbaums, Memento, Half Nelson,….
Favorite Music:
Same as the movies but here are a few I’m listening to right now: Mumford and Sons, Ray Lamontagne,
Coldplay, David Crowder, The Frames, Ingrid Michaelson, Martyn Joseph, Muse, Ben Folds, Band of Horses,
Foy Vance, Vaughn Williams, Brahams, Mahler…
Scripture that is central to my life:
- "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be
burdened again by a yoke of slavery." - Galatians 5:1.
- "But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even
when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved." - Ephesians 2:4-5
- "Lord, I believe; help my unbelief." - Mark 9:24
Favorite authors:
CS Lewis, Robertson Davies, Frederick Buechner, Phillip Yancey, JRR Tolkien, Paul Watkins, Robert Jordan
Favorite Qoutes:
“Aslan,” said Lucy, “you're bigger.” ----- “That is because you are older, little one,” answered he.
“Not because you are?....I am not. But every year you grow, you will find me bigger.”
CS Lewis in Prince Caspian
"If we discover a desire within us that nothing in this world can satisfy, also we should begin to
wonder if perhaps we were created for another world..." - CS Lewis
“In all affairs, it’s a healthy thing now and then to hang a question mark on the things you
have long taken for granted...” - Bertrand Russel
