Our lives are filled with more and more each day. More things that call for the focus of our minds, the devotion of our hearts, and the investment of our life’s currency. Jesus tells us, and we hear this truth echoed throughout the Bible, that only one thing is needed. What is the truth we are being pointed to in these passages? What is this life of clearer focus that we are being invited to?
All through God’s word He calls His people to rest. He describes Himself often as not only the place of rest but rest itself. In Isaiah we see Sabbath rest as essential to what it means to do the work of God’s people. What does God mean by this rest and why is it so important for us? What is God inviting us to in the call to rest in Him?
Returning from holiday is always a challenge for me. It is hard to reengage with the business of 'normal' life and get back in performing for regular life. Does the gospel actually invite us to a different kind of life?
