We are invited to follow Jesus on the via dolorosa in still and solemn reflection. rnrnAs we take up our crosses and follow Jesus, we reflect on the story of God with His people. Moses, in his famous last words, commended Israel to celebrate the Passover in memory of God’s salvation of his people from Egypt. Salvation is the center of the identity of the people of God.rnrnGood Friday is rooted in the Passover celebrations of Israel throughout the ages. The next step takes us to the words of the prophet Isaiah as he depicts God’s Suffering Servant giving his life as a ransom for many, foreshadowing the crucifixion of Christ. From there we move to hear the song of the Suffering Servant, inviting us to consider our own sufferings and dark moments of life.rnrnWe will join the disciples and Jesus in their celebration of the Passover and as followers of Jesus Christ we also partake in the Lord’s Supper. From the upper room we move step by step following Jesus down the road of betrayal, trial, crucifixion, suffering culminating in his death.  rnrnThe service ends in darkness, inviting us to consider the absence of God in our lives and leading us to prayer, mourning and hope…preparing our hearts to fully embrace the rejoicing of the full light of Jesus’ resurrection which we celebrate on Easter, Resurrection Sunday.rnrnCheck the newsletter for online access.
