About Our History

Crossroads began as a dream...

A number of people had long been envisioning a series of high impact churches in major cities of Europe; churches that would be for Europeans and internationals who hungered for a vibrant, Christ-centered spiritual community in an English-speaking context. In September of 1997, Crossroads began weekly gatherings at Het Kruispunt, a neighborhood community centre in the suburb of Voorburg.

From the beginning Crossroads has placed a strong value on authentic relationships that make a positive difference in people's lives. We have also valued a contemporary, creative approach to weekend services and a commitment to reach out to our diverse community.

Crossroads immediately became and remains a very diverse community. About half of our participants are from a Dutch background and the other half come from over 30 different countries from all around the world. In this respect, we like to think of Crossroads as a little sneak preview of Heaven; a place where people from many tribes and nations gather to worship Jesus Christ.

In 1998 we outgrew our facility and began meeting at the junior school of the British School of the Netherlands in The Hague. We are feeling a bit cramped in our current facility and are aggressively pursuing new options for our weekend gatherings.

Since the very early stages, Crossroads has had strong ties to an organization called Christian Associates International (CAI). CAI is part of a movement leading people in post-modern, post-Christian cultures to experience the life-changing relevance of Christ in over 20 projects spread across Europe.

The original leadership team of Crossroads joined CAI in 1996, and from that point on a steady infusion of ideas and resources have flowed from CAI to catalyze our community's development.
